Vice President Sreenath helps a new volunteer refurbish a computer.
We are the Palouse Chapter of the World Computer Exchange (WCE), an international nonprofit that collects and refurbishes donated computers for shipment to community centers in developing countries. WCE strives to prevent electronic waste from ending up in landfills and connect disadvantaged youth to educational tools and the Internet to improve their quality of life. WCE has worked closely with 900 partner organizations in 81 developing countries to connect 4.3 million youth in 3,150 computer labs.
Our chapter services the Pullman, WA/Moscow, ID area. Our volunteers, all college students from the WCE Club at WSU, gain valuable technical experience and fulfilment through serving their local and global community.

We are working towards making our chapter's first shipment of 100 computer sets to a community partner in a developing country by April 2016. The destination is to be decided by WCE headquarters based on need at the time. A computer set consists of a desktop (installed with Xubuntu and educational software), power cables, VGA cable, monitor, mouse, and keyboard. We will send additional equipment, like printers, routers, and laptops, if possible. Other volunteers on the receiving end will teach the community partner how to set up and use the computers.
This shipment has been four years in the making and many of our volunteers are about to graduate. We have struggled to keep the chapter alive, consistently appealing to local businesses, organizations, and individuals for equipment and monetary donations through various means. (We are very grateful for all of our sponsors so far, including the CougParents Fund.) We have been forced to relocate twice in the last two years. We have logged countless weekend hours refurbishing computers. We have learned a lot; we have become a team. Now more than ever, we desire to have our computers make a difference for others as they have already done for us.
We hope that you will join us in reducing electronic waste and bridging the digital divide around the globe. Every donation counts. Please consider a contribution today!
