Water Treatment Project in El Quebracho, Nicaragua

About Engineers Without Borders

Engineers without borders is a nationally recognized club known for its humanitarian efforts to improve the infrastructure of communities in need. Here at WSU, our chapter is focused on improving the water quality for a community in El Quebracho, Nicaragua. This community has high levels of fluoride in their groundwater, which can be dangerous over a long period of time. Our chapter is working directly with the local community to understand their needs and provide a solution to their problem.

Our Goal

This year, our goal is to raise enough money to cover the cost of designing and installing our filtration system. Donations will directly help us fund this project and other costs involved. Extra donations we receive will be used to fund future projects or reduce the cost of our flights to Nicaragua, where we will work with the community to install our filter. Our group is very passionate about helping this community, and your donations will help us use our knowledge of engineering principles to improve the lives of many for years to come.

$10

Snacks for Team Meetings

Covers the cost of snacks at project meetings. We can't work on an empty stomach!

$25

Water Quality Test

To ensure that the well water is clean, we will need to test multiple existing wells to know what we need to treat. This donation will cover the cost of one water quality test.

$35

EWB Shirts

This donation will cover the cost of making a WSU EWB T-shirt. Part of the commitment to the project is representing both WSU and EWB, the T-shirts elevate the level of professionalism and comradery of the club as well as helps recruit more members and awareness to the WSU EWB club.

$50

Bake Sale Materials

In December EWB performs its biggest fundraiser of the year by baking sweets and selling them on the WSU mall. Your donation will cover ingredients and will be a opportunity to raise even more money for the El Quebracho project!

$100

Filter Materials

One known problem in El Quebracho is that the groundwater contains a high level of fluoride. High levels of fluoride can cause brittle bones and other health problems, so your donation will help fund a filter to bring the fluoride concentration to a safe level.

$250

Custom Plaque

Donors who donate $250 or higher will have their name engraved on a plaque we plan to put on our filtration system
