Who we are: We are graduate student researchers at the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University, and we are passionate about conducting meaningful research that addresses some of the most pressing issues in health promotion, emerging technology, political communication, science, and risk communication.
Our challenge: Many students struggle to fund their research. The costs of collecting data, recruiting participants, and accessing essential tools can be overwhelming, and without financial support, some of the most innovative ideas may never be realized.
How you can help: We created the CommGrad Research Implementation Fund—to remove financial barriers and empower graduate students to bring their research to life. Our goal is to raise $4000-$5000 to provide small research grants that will help students push forward with their projects.
Your Support Can Create a Big Impact!
Even a small donation can help graduate students:
✅ Reach diverse and underrepresented voices – Funding allows researchers to include older adults, minority communities, parents, and LGBTQ individuals, who are often excluded due to financial constraints.
✅ Enhance data collection efforts – Your contribution helps students offer incentives to participants, use transcription services, and upgrade survey tools for better research quality.
✅ Access essential research tools – Grants support the purchase of software, data analysis tools, and technology to enhance research capabilities.
✅ Foster interdisciplinary collaboration – More funding means more opportunities for students to work across disciplines and position WSU as a leader in research excellence.
By supporting this fund, you’re not just helping individual students—you’re investing in the future of knowledge, innovation, and societal progress. Your generosity fuels groundbreaking research that can make a lasting impact.
Join us in empowering the next generation of researchers at Edward R. Murrow College of Communication. Together, we can drive discoveries that shape the world!

Supports 2 focus group discussions (5–8 participants per session) with $10–$15 gift card incentives per participant
Research software funding helps graduate students access essential tools like Qualtrics for survey design, Prolific for participant recruitment, and SPSS/NVivo for data analysis.
Helps fund publication fees in peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings, ensuring research findings are accessible to the academic community.
Research site travel allows graduate students to visit study locations, conduct fieldwork, and engage directly with participants. Whether for community-based research, focus groups, or ethnographic studies, travel support ensures data is collected accurately and inclusively.
Supports graduate students presenting research at academic conferences, covering registration fees, travel, or lodging assistance.
Thesis publication funding helps cover the costs of open-access journal fees, conference proceedings, and editing services, ensuring research is widely accessible. Your support allows graduate students to share their findings with academic and professional communities, increasing the impact of their work.
Dissertation funding supports graduate students in conducting in-depth research, data collection, and analysis necessary for their final thesis.
Provides complete funding for one graduate student research project, covering participant incentives, research materials, and software needs.
