WSU-V IEEE Drone Race
WSU-V IEEE Annual Drone Race
The WSU-V IEEE Annual Drone Race is a student-led project inspired by Dr. Lynch's solar car race. 3-4 teams of 5-12 students each are given a budget by the IEEE club of $500-700. They are then tasked with prototyping their drone, designating their roles, creating a timeline, building a budget proposal with their chosen parts, collaborating with their team, assembling their drone, testing and then racing their drone. The building of the drones is done over the course of the academic year, with the race held after spring finals week. Drone race is held on the WSU-V campus fields, allowing for students, student families, faculty, or anyone in the community to join us for the race!
This project teaches students how to manage time, think creatively, test their mechanical and electrical skills, collaborate with others for a common goal, manage a budget and overcome challenges. Not only does this project benefit the students, but also allows students to connect with faculty during the build process and during race day, where faculty judge the drones based on a given criteria.
The funds donated to this Cougstarter up to our goal will be used for drone race, any additional funds over our requested amount will be used for a variety of club events and projects.
