Help Revive the Chemistry Club!

    The Chemistry club is an academic club that aims to spread the excitement of chemistry through events, outreach, and demonstrations!  We have participated in the last two Kids Science and Engineering Days with interactive and informational chemistry demonstrations.  Some of the demos we have done for this event include showing kids how to safely shrink balloons in liquid nitrogen to describe pressure and energy, a coloring activity on coffee filters to teach about chromatography, and mixing household products with red cabbage juice to show pH changes. We also always try to help with American Chemical Society events like the Chemical Olympiad and National Chemistry Week.

     One of the goals of the club is to support the students at WSU who are interested in chemistry.  One way we aim to do this is through planning more professional development events to help undergraduates find research labs to join.  Another goal is to host fun events that offer valuable learning opportunities on teaching chemistry to the public and safety procedures for handling chemicals.  We hope to develop a couple of events that can be held annually for everyone to look forward to.  This is something we have been working on: creating a Halloween demonstration event for club members.  The aim is to have some events that are also open to the general public.

     This will be our third year working to revitalize the club.  First, we worked on gathering members and starting to create a strong foundation.  Now, we are working on evolving into a long-lasting club.
